What Is Energetic Digestion?
By Brittany Mondido
Have you ever had a meal that you digest very well and others, not so much? The same goes when it comes to energy and the environments and people you surround yourself with. This isn’t about separation or judgment; it’s about understanding what’s happening when you feel off. Tired in ways sleep doesn’t quite seem to “work” and tight and tense in ways that don’t always make sense yet you sense it.
I’ve personally felt this many times — and sharing a recent experience of many things that although were happening in my field at once— energetic digestion was clearly at play particularly after family gatherings or intense meetings — and it often left me questioning: Is it me? Them? Or something in between?
What I’ve learned is that much of this is energetic digestion.
1. What is Energetic Digestion?
Energetic digestion is the process your body, mind, and heart go through after absorbing external energies. Think of it like holding a mirror up in a charged environment: it reflects everything it sees. When you come home, the mirror still holds that reflection. You don’t need to become someone else, nor do you need to push it away — you simply need to cleanse the glass.
This isn’t about blame or judgment. It’s about awareness. Not every weight you carry belongs to you, but some of it asks for attention, integration, and release.
I remember one particular evening with my family. I felt light and clear in the morning, but by the next day, my body felt tense, tight, and oddly heavy. I realized that what I had absorbed was still “inside” me. My energy had not yet digested the interactions, the projections, the unspoken words. Recognizing this was the first step in creating space for processing and choice.
2. Why This Happens
Energetic digestion happens because we are deeply interconnected beings. When we interact — especially with those we care about or those who push our buttons — our nervous system responds to subtle cues: emotions, expectations, unspoken needs. These responses can linger, like the aftertaste of a rich meal, until we intentionally process them.
For sensitive or highly empathetic individuals, this process is amplified. You feel more, sense more, and sometimes it’s hard to separate what belongs to you from what belongs to another.
3. How to Support Energetic Digestion
The good news is that energetic digestion can be cultivated, supported, and even turned into a practice. Some ways I’ve integrated it into my life include:
Pause and observe: When you notice tension or heaviness, pause. Ask yourself: Is this mine, or is it someone else’s reflection?
Movement and somatic release: Stretch, twist, breath deeply. Shake out your arms, your torso, your spine. Allow energy to move.
Reflection journaling: Write down the moments, feelings, or triggers. Sometimes the simple act of naming the energy can digest it.
Intentional clearing rituals: I use breathwork, meditation, prayer, or a walk outside to reset my energy field. Even five minutes can make a profound difference.
Over time, these practices create a kind of energetic immune system. You begin to notice faster, respond with clarity, and return to your center sooner.
4. Living With Awareness
Energetic digestion isn’t about avoidance — it’s about presence and integration. Life will continue to bring charged environments, difficult conversations, and mirrors that reflect more than we expect. But with awareness, we learn to hold space for ourselves, clear what isn’t ours, and honor what is.
I’ve noticed that when I integrate this practice, my leadership, creativity, and ability to hold space for others deepen. I don’t get “stuck” in residual energy. I show up fully — grounded, clear, and alive.
🌉 Bridging Inner and Outer
Energetic digestion is one of the many bridges between inner awareness and outer life. It’s about reclaiming your energy, honoring your body, and stepping into life fully present. The more we practice, the more we can show up for ourselves and others — without carrying extra weight, without judgment, and without losing heart.
